MLS Motor
Racing is owned by Eric Thompson. Eric has been autocrossing
for
10+ years. He first learned about autocrossing in
college when he
joined the Formula SAE team at the University of Illinois.

Number 83 University of
Illinois Falcon at the 1994 FSAE Competition
The
team was comprised of only students and they had to design, fabricate,
tune and then compete with the vehicle they built at the 1994 FSAE
competition. They team placed 7th overall out of 80+ teams. "To
this day I have not seen the level dedication that my fellow
teammates displayed. We gave up our summer, our Friday
nights,
girlfriends, and in some cases our grades to complete this car on time.
Was it worth it? Absolutely, the lessons I learned from being
a
part of this team have served me well in my professional and personal
life." - Eric
Thompson
When
he graduated in 1995 he attempted to
autocross a 1992 Eagle Talon Tsi. Unfortunately this vehicle was
plagued
by mechanical problems and was not reliable. It did not even
make
it through its first autocross without transmission failure.
Since Eric was a recent college grad, funding was
tight, so
the car was demoted back to a daily driver for the next three years,
where it continued to be plagued by mechanical problems.
In October 1997 he
placed an order for a 1998 Camaro SS with no
intentions of racing it. However one year after delivery he was bitten
by the
race bug once again.

Eric should have
checked the rules before buying this car because when he
registered for his first event he had two not so
desirable classes to choose from: Super Stock (SS) or
E-Street Prepared
(ESP). Considering the caliber of cars running in Super Stock, he
choose ESP,
which turned out to be a good choice. Eric, who is a
mechanical
engineer, likes to research, develop and implement improvements to his
race
vehicles, and the SCCA Street Prepared rules provides just enough room
to do so.
Ten years later, the
car is still not "done." Racing is very
R&D intensive and there are always ways to improve the
car and the
driver. Eric continues to improve on both. This
website is
dedicated to his efforts and the support of his family.
